At Rathbone you can learn in a way that suits you. We’ll help you find a programme that’s just right for you and support you all the way through it.

Our programmes

Pre 16 programme: We cater for young people aged 14-16 who may be struggling at school, at risk of permanent exclusion or have special needs and require extra support.
Our curriculum is tailored to meet your individual needs. It includes a strong emphasis on English, Maths and ICT alongside a broad curriculum including Personal Social Health Citizenship Education (PSHCE), vocational studies in a variety of occupations and extra support related to Careers Education and Information, Advice & Guidance which will help you make a successful transition after leaving school. You’ll learn in small study groups (max eight students) and have an individual learning plan tailored to your goals.
Study Programmes: Our study programmes offer a wide range of courses for 16-18 year olds. Whether you want to get back into learning or secure an apprenticeship or employment, we’ll have something for you. Choose from health and social care, retail and military preparation. You don’t need any formal qualifications, but you will need an assessment to check that the course is right for you. Lunch and travel costs are covered and we’ll provide any specialist equipment you need. You’ll also get an NUS card! Read more about Study Programmes.
Apprenticeships: An apprenticeship gives young people aged 16-24 the chance to gain recognised qualifications and experience and get paid at the same time. You can study at Level 2 (intermediate) or Level 3 (advanced) – choose from motor vehicle level, customer service level, childcare, business administration and youth work. You’ll achieve an NVQ, a technical certificate and key skills in English, Maths and ICT. Training takes place at a Rathbone centre or at your workplace and lasts between 12 and 24 months. You’ll work up to 40 hours a week (under 18’s) or 48 hours a week (18+). You’ll earn £3.30 an hour minimum, which is the national apprenticeship wage. You’ll also receive holiday pay. Read more about apprenticeships.

Traineeships: Traineeships are for young people aged 16-24 who want to work but need extra help to get an apprenticeship or a job. You’ll get valuable work experience in an area of your choice, develop key skills in English and Maths and receive work preparation training. You won’t get paid but you may get financial support and help with travel costs. You can also continue to claim benefits. The traineeship lasts up to six months; then you’ll be ready to apply for an apprenticeship or look for employment. Read more about Traineeships.
