Rathbone offers Intermediate and Advanced Apprenticeships in Children and Young People's Workforce to new or existing staff. This equips them with the skills and knowledge to work confidently, safely and legally in a child care setting.
Apprentices will learn about children’s physical development and how they need to be looked after. Apprentices will also learn about the law and safeguarding.
An Intermediate Apprenticeship allows someone to work under supervision with children. To work independently with children, a young person needs to achieve an Advanced Apprenticeship.
Rathbone provides all the training, advice, support and guidance an Apprentice needs to get ahead.

What’s in the Apprenticeship?
Most learning happens on the job where young people learn from experienced work colleagues. There’s some time away from work to learn and practice new skills.
What’s required from an Apprentice:
Rathbone emphasises employment skills so Apprentices understand they need to be smart, well presented, punctual and to behave in a professional manner to get ahead.
They’ll need to work hard and be willing to listen and learn from others.
How long does an Apprenticeship last?
People must be able to perform the job to national standards so it depends on how fast someone learns.
If someone left school with no other experience in this area, they could achieve their Apprenticeship in around 15 months or an Advanced Apprenticeship in between 18 – 24 months.
What qualifications can be achieved?
-
A Certificate in Children and young People's Workforce at Intermediate Level proving they’re skilled, or a Diploma in Children and young People's Workforce at Advanced Level that shows they have the knowledge they need.
-
Practical work skills in communications, using numbers and ICT.
- A two day children’s First Aid course.
By law, people must have an Enhanced Criminal Record (CRB) check before they work with children. Rathbone organises this for Apprentices.
Apprentices will also be provided with the employment skills to work in the sector and will understand employer rights and responsibilities.
