How Rathbone supports your business

We provide support to you through our employer engagement team who are experienced in your sector – they know the retail industry. We’re here to help.

From recruitment to achievement, Rathbone handles all the training and administration.

We deliver the training to a plan agreed with you and provide regular updates on progress and achievement.

What’s in the Apprenticeship?

Most learning happens on the job, learning from experienced work colleagues. There’s some time away from work to learn and practice new skills.

They’ll learn how retail works, ranging from stock control to store layouts through to visual merchandising.

Apprentices learn about ‘sell by’ dates, retail law and handling payments.

What’s required from an Apprentice:

Rathbone emphasises employment skills so Apprentices understand they need to be smart, well presented, punctual and to behave in a professional manner to get ahead.

How long does an Apprenticeship last?

People must be able to perform the job to national standards so it depends on how fast someone learns.

If someone left school with no other experience in retail, they could achieve their Apprenticeship in around 12 - 18 months or an Advanced Apprenticeship in between 18 – 24 months.

What qualifications can be achieved?

  • A Certificate at Level 2 or 3 in Retail, this demonstrates that they can do the job.
  • A Certificate or Diploma that shows they have the knowledge they need.
  • Practical work skills in communications, using numbers and ICT.

Apprentices will also be provided with the employment skills to work in the sector and will understand employer rights and responsibilities.
