What is youth engagement?

‘We can talk to staff at any time, and they will give us advice. We can ask for help about anything.’

‘The project has helped me open up to people and I can talk to my worker about anything.’

‘I go to a music project and it’s very good. I like making my own CDs.’

We’ve got teams of friendly, experienced youth workers based in some areas of the country who can help you progress and get you where you want to go. Whatever your situation, we can help you.

You might have practical issues - you might need some help to get into college or some support in applying for jobs. You might need someone to talk to some practical help to find a place to live or some support when you’re not getting on with friends or family.

Rathbone’s team of youth workers can help you in most situations – or we’ll know where you can go to get help if it’s a more in depth issue that you need support with.

You’ll find Rathbone’s youth workers out and about in your area in the evening or at weekends. If you want – and we’d only do this if you want us to - we can come to your house to meet you and your family / friends.

We get to know you and what you’re interested in. We’ll help you do what you’re interested in or support you to try out new things – whether that’s sport, going on visits or local music projects. What we offer depends on what you need and what you’re interested in.

Once you are ready to progress Rathbone youth workers can help you take the next step to a job or college. Across the country Rathbone has a number of youth training centres that are small and friendly, so you can get the attention and time you need.

We know everyone is different so we develop a personalised learning plan with you to support you to get ahead on programmes like Destinations – foundation learning (England), Skillbuild (Wales) or Get Ready for Work (Scotland). We’ll help you get qualifications and take the next steps to college, a job or an Apprenticeship (England).

Did you know?

Rathbone offers Apprenticeships in Youth Work. Some young people who’ve been supported by Rathbone’s youth workers are now working towards their Youth Work Apprenticeships developing a career helping young people.
