Aged 16-18? Thinking about what to do next? Gain the skills you need to go to college or find work by joining Rathbone and receive up to £800 on our Foundation Learning programme.
At Rathbone in Manchester, we help young people to learn in a way that suits them. We’re in the city centre, within walking distance of train, bus and tram stations. We’ve got an IT suite, training rooms and a large kitchen dining area for young people.
If you’re a young person who’d like support with your next step, we offer several programmes in Manchester, and we can advise you on what’s right for you which is the right one for you:
In2Work
The In2work programme is for 19-24 year olds who are not in work or training and have not yet achieved any qualification above level 1. The programme offers English, maths and ICT skills on a flexible hour basis. It is tailored to each individual person and aims to re-motivate young people to get into, and stick with, training or employment.
Foundation Learning – for people aged 16 - 18
If you’re not in education or training, enrolling on our Foundation Learning programme can help you find your next step – whether that’s college, employment or an apprenticeship.
You’ll learn about:
- Personal and social development
- Employability
- Work placement
- Functional skills qualifications in Maths, English and ICT
You could also take qualifications – building the skills that can help you to get a job or move on to college or an apprenticeship. There are opportunities to volunteer, or get involved in sports, arts or drama. These can help you to build up your CV, meet new people and gain confidence.
Apprenticeships – for people aged 16 - 18
Doing an apprenticeship means you can earn as you learn.
Depending on what level you’re at apprenticeships usually last between 12 and 24 months. You'll work towards a vocational qualification and also get key skills certificates in application of number, communication and ICT.

Pathways Project
Pathways is a flexible and supportive programme to help you build your skills, your confidence and develop your career options.
Hours are flexible and you’ll be with us for around 16 weeks. We’ll pay for your travel costs and you may be eligible for a bonus.
Pathways can help you with:
- Gaining confidence
- Overcoming personal barriers
- Building a CV
- Giving advice on interviews and application forms
- Finding a work placement
- Developing the skills and gaining the qualifications employers want
