Aged 16-18? Thinking about what to do next? Gain the skills you need to go to college or find work by joining Rathbone and receive up to £800 on our Foundation Learning programme.
At Rathbone in Derby, we help young people to learn in a way that suits them. We’re in the city centre at St Peter’s Church Yard. We’re about 15 minutes walk from the train station, and five minutes walk from the local bus station and the Westfield Centre.
If you’re a young person who’d like support with your next step, we offer several programmes in Derby, and we can advise you on what’s right for you:
Foundation Learning – for people aged 16 - 18
If you’re not in education or training, enrolling on our Foundation Learning programme can help you find your next step – whether that’s college, employment or an apprenticeship.
You’ll learn about:
- Personal and social development
- Work placement
- Functional skills qualifications in Maths, English and ICT
You could also take vocational qualifications – building the skills that can help you to get a job or move on to college or an apprenticeship. There are opportunities to volunteer, or get involved in sports, arts or drama. These can help you to build up your CV, meet new people and gain confidence.
In Derby we offer training for qualifications in these areas:
- Business Administration
- Customer Service
- Hair and Beauty
- Sports Leadership
Health and Social Care
Apprenticeships – for people aged 16 - 24
Doing an apprenticeship means you can earn as you learn.
Depending on what level you’re at apprenticeships usually last between 12 and 24 months. You'll work towards a vocational qualification and also get key skills certificates in application of number, communication and ICT.
We offer apprenticeships in Derby and the area in:
- Customer Service
- Business and Administration
- Youth Work
Family Learning Engage Project
A six week course for 10-16 year olds and an accompanying adult (preferably a parent or carer) delivered with our partners SOVA.
The courses will improve the young person’s confidence and motivation and enable them to interact better with other family members. Participates will learn new skills through a range of active learning opportunities such as music production, sports, film making, art & design, hair and beauty, brick laying, retail, painting and decorating and car maintenance.
