Rathbone recently hosted the successful 'Step Up!' campaign, a three day programme designed to engage and re-engage 16-18 year olds in education and learning. Potential new learners attended centres across England to find out just what Rathbone could offer!
The programme consisted of talks with local employers, group learning, bonding sessions and field trips such as a visit to Heywood Fire Station, where the learners had a tour of the fire engines and rescue equipment. As you can see in the photos, sometimes the staff seemed more excited by a fire engine than the learners! In Walsall, we took the learners to the Walsall Canal Trust where we spent the day renovating the paths and walkways, providing some much needed help to the trust team.
The programme gave the young people a real insight into what a ‘day in the life’ would be like at Rathbone, as well as a chance to meet the team in the centres. Even in this short period, the young people got a great insight into how we can help them realise their potential and above all, boost their confidence and motivation.
There were some very proud moments, where the true value of what we do shone through.
Learners from Walsall said, "The programme has boosted my confidence and made me think about my career" and "I would like to come back to join Rathbone Training because I enjoyed Step Up and I want to study my Maths and English here”
At Rathbone we believe that every young person has the potential to realise a positive future, and that given the right opportunities and support, all young people can succeed in their chosen career – the Step Up Programme has absolutely proved this point.
In total we had over one hundred new learners through the door at Rathbone centres which has been a hugely positive result.
