?A Rathbone learner from Newport has overcome low self-esteem to secure a warehousing Apprenticeship with a hair and beauty retailer.
Darren Watts, 19, started with Rathbone on an Engagement programme in July 2014 and due to personal issues he felt he would never be able to secure a job.
But with support from Rathbone his work ethic soon became apparent as he completed administration tasks around the centre as part of his training and quickly became a respected member of the team.
“He has a great personality everyone who worked and visited the centre thought a lot of him,” said Michelle Pardoe, Lead Tutor for Rathbone in Newport.
Darren was very eager to gain employment so when an opportunity came up at Gilmors to work in the warehouse with a promise of employment through an apprenticeship he leapt at the chance and started in October.
“Everyone is extremely pleased to see that Darren had settled at Gilmors but at the same time missed having him around. In March of this year Darren completed his NVQ in Warehousing as well as gaining employment at Gilmors and everyone is very proud of him. He is ecstatic with the outcome and with what he has achieved, as are all who know and have supported him,” added Michelle.
