Brave soles set a blistering pace
Trainers from our Barrow centre are joining the fight to heal cancer – by setting off on a ten-mile stroll.
Tutors, their friends and families will be shooting-off from their Abbey Road base to hike to neighbouring town Ulverston on Friday June 5th as part of Cancer Research UK’s breast cancer awareness campaign.

Some 46,000 UK women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year. Tutor Fiona Wilson’s mum-in-law Susan lost her battle against the disease when in her early 40’s. Cash collected from the campaign will be used to better diagnose and improve the treatment those living with the condition receive.
Sara Benson, Cancer Research UK’s Area Volunteer Manager said: “We’re delighted Fiona and her colleagues have decided to organise a sponsored walk in aid of Cancer Research UK. We can’t thank them enough for their support and wish them a successful event.”
The Rathbone centre in Barrow runs the Entry to Employment (e2e) programme for 16-19-year-olds and offers apprenticeships in business administration, ICT, health and social care and childcare. Former e2e student Becki-Joe Christie recently won a Rathbone North West Achiever of the Year Award after judges acknowledged her journey from homeless teenager to would-be youth worker.
