Not just boys under the hood
Bradford Apprentice Jeanne Goodall is getting her career in gear – so that she can give dodgy male mechanics some stick.
Tired of seeing female drivers being ripped-off, Jeanne has decided to train hard so that she can one day open up her own, “girl’s only garage” and “have women working only for women!”

Jeanne’s dream certainly teams with the theme of a recent survey by Sheilas’ Wheels. The Australian-born car insurance company discovered that around four million UK women would rather chance driving an unsafe vehicle than risk going to their local garage and getting ripped off.
Speaking at the release of the survey, Christine Maskill, owner of Newbury Crash Repairs said: “The problem isn’t that women are nervous drivers or don’t understand the basics, it’s that the service they receive from many in our industry is pretty poor and can be quite off-putting.”
Jeanne is currently giving it full throttle in her pursuit of becoming a fully-qualified mechanic. She impressed during a recent work placement and, says Tutor Gary Campbell, “has won the respect of the lads on the course.”
Rathbone Bradford has overtaken others in its quest for equality and diversity in the work place. Apart from putting Jeanne on the road to a career in car maintenance, they have also enabled Jason Measures to nurse his interest in child care. Despite recent figures showing that there were no young male employees working in state nurseries, Jason now has a full-time job looking after children.
