Gourmet day at Derby
Raising cash for a boy with a rare form of cancer proved a piece of cake for Rathbone learners in Derby.
Although they are normally health conscious, trainees from our Gower Street centre got out the sugar, chocolate and cream to whip up a cake sale in aid of the Lewis Mighty Fund.
And the enthusiastic bakers found plenty of takers for their mince pies, sponge, cream, carrot and chocolate cakes.

Brave Lewis is battling a very rare form of cancer which mainly targets under five’s. The whole community has rallied round – with everyone from mountaineers to Status Quo tribute bands helping to raise funds to treat Lewis and others suffering from Neuroblastoma. This support was very much in evidence at the Rathbone event with theatre tickets, dinner for two and even free haircuts donated as prizes by local businesses.
Also aiding the effort was a local teacher who helped learners such as Ashleya Pearse fashion jewellery from cocktail sticks, rolled up paper and beads! Freelance chef and noted food coach Steve West has also been making sure that the young people have all the ingredients they need to be able to shop and cook for themselves. His support preparing the festive treats was the icing on the cake for an event which made a mighty difference to local lad, Lewis.
