Are you a disability confident employer?
For National Apprenticeship Week this year, we hosted a free event in Birmingham in partnership with The National Deaf Children's Society, exploring the opportunities and challenges of hiring a Deaf apprentice. We challenged employers to think about their own HR policies around hiring, discussed the support available for disabled employers, and examined how employers could begin to introduce more balanced recruitment practices into their workforce. It became apparent that many employers are simply unaware of the government support and funding available through Access To Work that enables employers to make adjustments in the workplace to support disabled employees.
The event included keynote presentations by Ian Webber, the managing director of Rathbone Training, Jennie Cooke from the National Deaf Children's Society and some of the Deaf apprentices currently working with Rathbone Training and NDCS. We also showed the video above to further highlight the opportunities and challenges around hiring a Deaf apprentice.
At Rathbone Training we're proud to work with the NDCS in making apprenticeships accessible to all.
Our founder Elfrida Rathbone believed that "Every child can learn" and we are committed to making this a reality for young people in the UK today.
