Rathbone Training’s Choices Programme in Kilmarnock has been awarded a Dyslexia Friendly School Bronze Award by the East Ayrshire Dyslexia Friendly School’s Accreditation Panel.
The Award was created as the Education and Learning team at East Ayrshire Council were keen that all school age young people had the support of staff who had an awareness of the issues of dyslexia and the resources available for support. They were also keen to see that learning environments throughout the authority area for young people were dyslexia friendly.
Rathbone Training Choices began their support for this process and the journey to their own accreditation two years ago but particular progress was made when Lead Tutor Jackie Keogh joined the management team and took a lead role on the project.
Supported by the East Ayrshire Dyslexia Friendly School’s Accreditation Panel, a steering group made up mainly of young people from the Choices pre16 provision led by Jackie was formed and their work supported by all of the Choices team culminated in a presentation to the panel on 27th April after which achievement of the Bronze Accreditation was confirmed. The team now hopes to build on this success and work for a silver accreditation in the coming months.
